About Us
How it all began! In 2013 we decided to homestead ....so we started with a few little cute chicks from the local feed store!
They ate and pooped a lot (and I mean a lot) and grew fast and so we couldn't keep them inside any more... so we had to build a coup. After about 6 months we got our very first eggs. Boy were we so proud even though they were so small at first.

We got more chicks on sale and the next spring our chickens had chicks. We soon had over 40 chickens so we decided to let them free range in our horse pasture with the horses. Then we started having problems with foxes. We saw them boldly come and go during the day. They would easily jump over or right through our field fencing. The hot wire surrounding it didn't ever detour them. Well over the next few months we lost almost all our chickens. We then decided it was time to invest in a livestock guardian!
I had already been researching livestock guardian dogs and had pretty much settled on the "The Great Pyrenees" breed due to their fine qualities for protection and love of children. So I began looking harder to find one. My daughter had also wanted a dog really badly so I was also looking for a dog that she could play with and be company when we got a Pyrenees. I found a family that had a border collie/malamute mix for adoption that had been a great family dog. So we went and met them and decided to adopt her. While we were adjusting to having a dog I also found "Mia" a purebred Pyrenees. She was such a big love bug! We soon realized that a Pyrenees was the best fit for us and that "Lacy" the border collie mix was a bad fit for us as she loved fresh chicken dinner....and I'm not talking about the kind from the store...she loved my chickens for a fresh dinner! After quite a few attempts of breaking her of her love for fresh chicken we finally realized that we needed to find her a home where she would be adored, cause she was a sweetheart, but somewhere there were no fresh chicken dinners running around free range. Mia on the other hand was great with our chickens and always would watch them but never chase them or eat them. It took a while but we sent Lacy on her way to a new home.
After having Mia a while we decided to find her a buddy so she was not alone and we really were so thrilled to have amazing protection. We found our other Pyrenees AKC "Rocky Man Michalek" in California. He was raised with chickens and sheep and he loved them.
Livestock guardians are so worth the investment! Learn from our experience and get the livestock/poultry protection first. Loosing animals can be tragic and a waste of so much hard work and money. Our dogs love to work for for us and we are so happy to take care of them and they love us unconditionally in return. Its so worth it!
